Aircraft Painting & Refinishing

Q: What types of paint are used on aircraft?

We use FAA-approved polyurethane paints, known for durability, corrosion resistance, and fuel efficiency through reduced drag. Such as Axalta, Sherwin Williams and Akzo Nobel.

Q: Do you remove the old paint or paint over it?

A: We generally strip the old paint completely to inspect for corrosion and ensure proper adhesion. In some cases, sanding and overcoating may be an option for touch-ups or minor work.

Q: How do you prepare an aircraft for painting?
A: Our process includes stripping, sanding, priming, corrosion treatment, base paint and precision masking before applying design, with high-quality coatings.

Q: Can you match or customize colors and logos?
A: Yes! We offer custom color matching and design services including company logos, tail numbers, and striping.

Q: What should be avoided when painting an aircraft?
A:Darker base colors are not suggested due to UV. Metallic base colors are higher cost to maintenance.

Q: What does the strip and paint job entail?

A: A strip and paint job starts by inspecting the aircraft for superficial damage. Mask the aircraft for stripping process. Then, stripping the aircraft, then sand off residue left behind by the stripper and corrosion. All composite parts are sanded only. Then, we etch and alodine the aluminum on the aircraft to treat and prevent corrosion. Prime with epoxy primer, and paint with polyurethane paint. The layout comes next and painting of the design. Final steps are removing masking tape and paper, PRC sealant around windows, cleaning of stripes, etc. *May vary depending on aircraft.

Q: Can you do partial paint jobs?

A: Our paint crew can do touch up on your aircraft. Change stripe colors, change registration #, paint logos, etc.

Q: What is the difference between a strip & paint and sand & paint job?

A: The difference between a strip & paint and sand & paint job is that a strip and paint job includes chemically stripping the aircraft to the bare metal. The sand and paint is a scuff on the top coat, leaving the previous primer. Then paint over.

Q: What maintenance is required after a new paint job?
A: Regular washing, waxing, and inspections help maintain the finish and prevent fading or chipping.

Q: How often should I repaint my aircraft?

Most aircraft require repainting every 5–10 years, depending on exposure, climate, and maintenance. Signs of fading, peeling, or corrosion often mean it’s time, to at least do some paint repairs.

Q: How much does it cost to repaint an aircraft?
Costs vary widely—from $20,000–$200,000+ depending on size, design complexity, and materials. We offer custom quotes after a consultation.
